My name is Gary Booth, and, as acne sufferers go, I realise I am very lucky, because I only suffer from mild acne, which isn’t visible to the outside world (i.e. it isn’t on my face). Having said that, having acne does mean that I do understand just how uncomfortable and sometimes painful the condition can be - both mentally and physically. I am passionate about avoiding the use of drug or chemical based treatments wherever possible, because I think the side-effects can often be worse than the condition being treated! Although I wasn't around at the time, I do know quite a bit about the Thalidomide tragedy of the late 1950s and early 1960s, where 1000s of pregnant women, who were prescribed the drug Thalomide for morning sickness, gave birth to malformed babies. The Thalidomide tragedy isn't an isolated case, and, in fact, there are major concerns about the popular acne drug Accutane ( Roaccutane in Europe). My dislike of drugs and chemicals, combined with suffering from acne, created a passion for learning about natural/alternative treatments for skin problems. This passion has resulted in me gaining a lot of knowledge about skin problems, what causes them, and how to treat them.
